Cody O’Neil and Derek Ling have been participating in science fairs since 2005. They have attended the national competition (CWSF) in 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008. They most recently attended the international competition in February of 2009 in Taipei, Taiwan. 
At the Canada-Wide Science Fair in 2008, Cody O’Neil and Derek Ling received the Award for Excellence in Astronomy. As a result of this, their project will be published in The Royal Astronomical Society of Canada Journal in late 2010.
They also received the Australian National Youth Science Forum Award, providing them with the opportunity to travel to Australia for 4 weeks and represent Canada at the 2008 National Youth Science Forum in Canberra. 
In February of 2009, Cody and Derek travelled to Taipei, Taiwan to represent Canada at the Taiwan International Science Fair, where they captured first place.
